On this nocturnal sea turtle-watching activity on the island of Sal we'll explore a deserted Cape Verde beach to observe these reptiles nesting at night - an unforgettable experience!
Description
At the appointed time, once the sun has set, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Maria. From here we'll take you to a beach that is populated by Cape Verde loggerhead turtles, the most common reptile species on the island of Sal.
With the help of your guide, who will show you how to enjoy the experience whilst respecting the natural environment of these majestic creatures, we'll see the turtles as they nest in the sand or head out to sea.
We'll walk in small groups along the beach, so as not to disturb these reptiles as they peek out from time to time to glide over the sand. You'll be amazed by their slow movements and you'll learn all about how these fascinating creatures breed and reproduce. There's no need to worry about it being too dark to see the turtles as we'll provide you with infrared lamps to take pictures at night.
After this breathtaking experience of seeing sea turtles at night, we'll take you back to your hotel, where we'll arrive 2 hours after pickup.
Pickup
Pickup is included in hotels or tourist apartments in the cities of Espargos, Santa Maria and Murdeira.
Things to keep in mind
The best time to see turtles on the beach is usually between May and October. However, the animals are unpredictable. The sighting of a greater or lesser number of turtles may depend on various factors, such as the weather at the time or the reproduction and breeding seasons.
