Tour of Nymphenburg Palace & Carriage Museum
Tour Details
History buffs, welcome! At the designated time, we'll meet at Nördliche Auffahrtsallee to begin this unforgettable guided tour of Nymphenburg Palace, one of the most opulent buildings in Germany. Ready to learn how Bavarian monarchs used to live during their summer months?
We'll walk through the landscaped front garden until reaching the magnificent palace entrance, a great example of the Rococo and Baroque styles characteristic of this summer residence. And the best part? This tour includes skip-the-line tickets!
Once inside, we'll wander through the palace's over 30 magnificent rooms, learning about the ornamented architecture and the history of the Wittelsbachs, the royal family who used to spend time here. Did you know that the Nymphenburg Palace was the birthplace of King Ludwig II of Bavaria?
One of the tour highlights will be, without a doubt, the Great Gallery of Beauties, commissioned by Maximilian II Emanuel around 1720. This hall contains 36 portraits of women, considered notable for their beauty, charm, or social status, all painted by the court artist of the time, Martin van Meytens. The details on these portraits are breathtaking!
Another noteworthy room we'll visit is the Coat of Arms Chamber, also known as the Wappenkammer. We'll learn about its former ceremonial purposes and the important families who gathered here. We'll also admire the Queen's Apartments, filled with beautiful tapestries and elegant mirrors, and the Palace Chapel, with its stucco decorations and magnificent altar.
In addition, we'll explore the Carriage Museum, one of the most unique spaces in the palace complex. This museum is home to one of the biggest collections of royal transportation in the world. You'll get to see the coaches and sleighs used by the Bavarian monarchs, including the original coronation coach of Emperor Karl VII. What a treat!
After a total of 2 hours exploring this fascinating site, this tour of the Nymphenburg Palace will come to an end.
