Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at 4 Dachauer Straße and take a short walk to Munich Central Station. From there, we'll board a train for a scenic one-hour ride to the charming Bavarian town of Chiemsee.
Upon arrival, we'll hop on a boat to Herreninsel, the larger of the two main islands on the lake. In this picturesque setting, you'll have the option to visit the Herrenchiemsee Palace, a stunning palace inspired by Versailles. It was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the famously eccentric monarch behind other iconic landmarks like Neuschwanstein Castle.
If you choose to go inside, we'll explore the lavish rooms and beautifully landscaped gardens of Herrenchiemsee while sharing fascinating stories about Ludwig II, also known as the "Mad King." Prefer to stay outside? You're free to enjoy the palace grounds at your own pace while the rest of the group tours the interior.
Afterward, we’ll take another boat to Fraueninsel, a nearby island that’s home to a Benedictine convent with over 1,000 years of history. You'll have free time here to wander through the island’s quaint village and soak up the peaceful atmosphere.
Later, we’ll regroup and take the boat back to Chiemsee, where we’ll catch the train back to Munich. We’ll wrap up our adventure after a memorable nine and a half hours.
