Discover the Frauenkitche (Munich Cathedral)—a symbol of the Bavarian capital city.

History

This renowned architectural masterpiece was completed in 1488 after just 20 years of construction. It was largely destroyed during Allied bombings during World War II and carefully restored between 1948 and 1955.

The Devil's Footstep

Though a large portion of the interior was destroyed during World War II, there still remains the Teufelstritt or 'Devil's Footstep'—a black mark resembling a footstep which is said to have been where the devil stood and ridiculed the church.

Visit the Munich Cathedral to see the wonderfully reconstructed Gothic architecture, as well as a collection of 14th to 18th century artwork, and the tomb of Holy Roman Emperor Louis IV.
