This is the essential tour for those that want to explore the historic temples of Mumbai and get closer to the spiritual side of the country.
Itinerary
The guide will be waiting for you at the Mahalakshmi temple, one of the most famous in Mumbai. Dedicated to the Goddess of Wealth of the same name, it was constructed in 1831 for a Hindu Merchant. Its story is the perfect introduction to this tour which will show you the importance of religions in India.
Then, we will follow the streets through what was once known as ‘old Bombay’ until we reach the temple of Trimbakeswar, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the temple of Siddheswar.
Our route will also take us to the Shree Swaminarayan temple, which despite its beauty and proximity to other religious sites, is less touristic, making it the ideal retreat to practice some meditation.
The other two temples that we will visit are the Lord Hanuman and Shani, which are situated together. This is no coincidence, as our guide will explain at this stop on the tour.
We continue our route along Warden Road, which today is known as Breach Candy. This street in south Mumbai is particularly important in the spiritual and religious side of Mumbai.
The next stop is the Kinara Masjid mosque, a key religious shrine in the city. Our tour finally ends at one of the most recognizable landmarks in Mumbai – the Haji Ali Dargah. This mosque and tomb (dargah) is located on a tiny islet located off the coast of Worli in south Mumbai. Here you will witness the huge influx of devotees that flock to this place to honour the Muslim saint Haji Ali.
