On this water trekking route through the Alcantara Gorges, we'll walk through one of the most amazing protected natural areas in the north-east of Sicily.
Tour Description
We'll meet at the indicated time at the adventure sports centre located on the carretera da Sciara s/n and, from this point in Motta Camastra, we'll start a short drive in an off-roading vehicle to the gorges of the Alcantara River.
Once we reach this protected environment, characterised by being one of the main natural areas in the north-east of Sicily, we'll embark on an exciting water trekking activity through the gorges. Are you ready for the hike?
During the route, which covers 3 of the 6 kilometres of these canyons (1.8 of the 3.7 miles), we'll see volcanic rock walls up to 25 metres (82 ft) high, formed by the cooling of the magma in contact with the water course. We'll also walk along the river bed while observing the various geological formations of the different gorges that make up the whole area.
Throughout our hike through the Alcantara Gorges, we'll also learn about the origin of these canyons. Additionally, we'll discover the flora and fauna that inhabit this special ecosystem, which stands out for its beautiful landscapes.
We'll conclude the route by returning to the starting point of the hike, where the off-roading vehicle will be waiting for us. This vehicle will take us to the meeting point, where we'll conclude this activity, which lasts 1.5 hours in total.
