Kazan & Yekaterinburg 6-Day Tour
Kazan & Yekaterinburg 6-Day Tour
Day 1: Mosow - Kazan
After picking you up at the Moscow airport or at your hotel in the Russian capital, we'll transfer you to the train station to catch the night train to Kazan. The train is scheduled to depart at 11:08 pm.
Day 2: Kazan
In the morning we'll arrive in Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, and start with a sightseeing tour of the city to check out its attractions, like the Kazan Kremlin, built by the order of Ivan the Terrible. This citadel was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000 and includes some of the city's main monuments. The oldest is the 16th-century Cathedral of the Annunciation. From inside the Kremlin, we'll also see the leaning tower of Söyembikä and the Kul Sharif Mosque, a majestic Islamic temple built in 1996 after the original construction was destroyed.
We'll continue through Liberty Square, observing curious orthodox cathedrals along the way until we arrive at the Tatarstan Presidential Palace, an elegant building with green and white stucco. Then, after stopping for a delicious lunch accompanied by a show, we'll take you back to the hotel.
Day 3: Kazan - Sviyazhsk
After breakfast, we'll continue exploring the surroundings of Kazan. The morning will be spent on the island of Sviyazhsk, whose origin dates back to 1551 when Ivan the Terrible ordered the construction of a wooden defensive fortress that was completed in just four weeks.
In Sviyazhsk we'll admire its main monuments, such as the cathedral, the Assumption Cathedral & Monastery, and St. John the Baptist Monastery. The church of this convent is the only wooden building that has been preserved since its construction. After the visit, we'll have lunch and go to the station to take the 8 pm night train to Yekaterinburg.
Day 4: Yekaterinburg
We'll arrive in Yekaterinburg, a city located east of the Ural Mountains, the natural border between Europe and Asia. Did you know that Yekaterinburg is named after Catherine I, wife of Tsar Peter the Great?
The city, however, is mainly known for a tragic event: the infamous assassination of Tsar Nicholas II and his family after the Russian Revolution of 1917, in the basement of the Ipatiev House. We'll go on a guided tour of the city to learn about its history and most representative moments, and then we'll head to the hotel where we'll spend the night.
Day 5: Yekaterinburg
On the fifth day, we'll continue our visit to Yekaterinburg by entering the Ural Geological Museum, which houses an important collection of lunar and Martian meteorites as well as different types of minerals from the Ural Mountains. We'll then continue with a visit to Ganina Yama, the abandoned mine where the remains of the imperial family were hidden after their assassination.
Next, we'll see the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center and climb the Vysotsky skyscraper to finish with a magnificent panorama of Yekaterinburg. After lunch, we'll return to the hotel and you'll have the rest of the afternoon free to continue exploring the city.
Day 6: Transfer to Yekaterinburg Airport
On the last day, you'll have breakfast, pack your luggage and we'll transfer you to Yekaterinburg-Koltsovo airport in time for your flight.
