Yunuén & Pacanda Islands + Ihuatzio Tour
Yunuén & Pacanda Islands + Ihuatzio Tour
After picking you up from your hotel in Morelia at 9 am, we'll set off for Lake Patzcuaro. Upon arrival, we'll board a boat that will take us to Yunuén Island, whose name refers to a crescent moon. You'll soon see why!
On the lake island, we'll stroll through its forests of junipers, pines, cedars and oaks. We'll also attend a workshop on the Purepecha language, where we'll learn that it has three dialects from the central, highland and lake areas.
We'll then travel by boat to Pacanda Island. If you prefer, you can reach the neighbouring island by flying across a 550-metre zip-line at top speed instead!
While we explore Pacanda Island, we'll learn that it's inhabited by just 400 people. We'll see its main square and traditional houses as well as admiring the beauty of the lake, where we might even get to meet the local fishermen with their butterfly nets. You'll then have an hour of free time to eat.
Next, we'll board the boat to cruise back to dry land and travel to the Ihuatzio archaeological site. This ancient Purépecha town served as an astronomical observatory and ceremonial centre before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. We'll tour Ihuatzio to see the pyramids dedicated to the gods Curicaveri and Xaratanga.
At the end of the tour, we'll head back to Morelia, where we will arrive at your hotel at 7 pm.
