Private Tour to El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary
Private Tour to El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary
We'll pick you up at 9 am from your hotel in Morelia and set off on a two-hour drive to El Rosario Sanctuary, a nature reserve home to millions of monarch butterflies.
Upon arrival, we'll enter a unique environment set up to protect this delicate species and located at 3000 metres above sea level. You can choose whether to tour the butterfly sanctuary on foot or on horseback. During the 2 kilometre journey we'll see these beautiful insects fluttering through the oyamel pine forests. If you're lucky, one of them might even land on you!
Did you know that butterflies fly from the United States and Canada to hibernate? They travel thousands of kilometres to escape the cold. We'll learn about their migration and many other interesting facts during our tour. For example, monarch butterflies can fly up to 130 kilometres a day, flap their wings 300 to 700 times a minute and live for up to nine months!
After the tour of the butterfly sanctuary, we'll enjoy a delicious snack of a blue corn quesadilla. With renewed energy, we'll make our way back to Morelia, where we're expected to arrive at your hotel at 6 pm.
