El Oro de Hidalgo & Tlalpujahua de Rayón Day Trip
El Oro de Hidalgo & Tlalpujahua de Rayón Day Trip
Having picked you up from your hotel in Morelia at 7 am, we'll head to the El Oro de Hidalgo Magic Town.
When we get there, we'll go on a walking tour of its historic centre to admire its ostentatious stately buildings, which are a sign of the prosperous era of the gold mines. We'll also pass by the neoclassical Parish Church of Santa María de Guadalupe and the Juárez Theatre, an art nouveau construction.
Next, we'll head into an old mine shaft to talk about the mining processes and the dangers involved. On our way out, we'll stop by a 100-year-old draught and have the chance to carve stone in a stonemasonry workshop. We'll also attend a glassblowing workshop to see how these handcrafted pieces are made up close.
You'll then have 1 hour of free time for lunch before we make our way to the Magic Town of Tlalpujahua de Rayón. This town has cobbled streets full of colonial architecture and a mining past that we'll discover on our guided tour.
During our tour, we'll see a 17th-century Franciscan convent, the temple of Santiago Puxtla, the Church of El Carmen. We'll also discuss why this place is known as the town of eternal Christmas. After our walking tour, you'll be able to buy some nice souvenirs in one of the Christmas shops.
We'll then return to Morelia, where you'll arrive at your hotel at 8:30 pm.
