Day Trip to Janitzio Island
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Avenida Francisco I Madero and head to the jetty of Lake Patzcuaro, where we'll board a boat to discover the many attractions of this enchanting lagoon.
After an hour's cruise on Lake Patzcuaro, we'll make a trip to Isla Janitzio, an island of volcanic origin. We'll see the fishermen at work with their famous butterfly nets, and, if we keep our eyes peeled, we'll also get to see the charal, black bass, tilapia and carp that fill the lake.
Disembarking on Janitzio Island, we'll climb up to the statue of José María Morelos, a towering monument honouring one of the most famous figures of Mexican Independence. This Art Deco sculpture is 47.75 metres tall!
You'll then have some free time for you to grab some lunch. After this, we'll head over to the village, which used to be the province's capital back in 1534, and we'll get to know the history of Don Vasco de Quiroga, Michoacán's first archbishop, who did everything in his power to support the local indigenous community.
Finally, we'll take the boat back to the departure pier and return to Morelia, where we'll arrive at your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
