Lascaux IV: The International Centre for Cave Art

The Lascaux Cave, located in Périgord, is known as the Sixtine Chapel of cave art due to the exceptional quality of its Prehistoric paintings.

With your ticket, you'll start this unforgettable journey through time with a guided tour of Lascaux IV, the International Cave Art Centre. The tour is divided into two parts. First, for 1 hour, you'll visit a replica of the Lascaux Cave with a guide or an audio guide, depending on the option you choose. Accompanied by a guide, you'll begin your adventure by stepping into Lascaux IV, a meticulously faithful replica of the original cave, where you'll be transported from the modern world into the dreamlike and artistic realm of the Lascaux artists. Thanks to the guide's input, you'll uncover all of the mysteries of this exceptional centre.

During this tour, you'll visit a replica of the original Lascaux cave. This meticulously faithful reconstruction will allow you to admire one of the world's most important archaeological sites, with hundreds of prehistoric paintings and engravings.

After your guided tour, you'll have 1.5 hours of free time to explore the other scenographic areas in Lascaux IV:

  • L'Atelier: enjoy the main panels in Lascaux, including augmented reality to explore its details
  • The Theatre: discover 3 interconnected rooms showcasing the work of prehistorians, archaeologists, and researchers from the 19th century to today
  • The Cinema: watch a projection about the original cave and other decorated caves in different parts of the world
  • La Galerie de l'Imaginaire: visit a virtual art gallery linking prehistoric cave art with 20th-century art
  • Immersion Room: discover the prehistoric times through an immersive show

Self-Guided Tour

When booking your ticket, you can opt for one of the following options:

  • Self-guided tour: in this case, you'll explore the centre at your own pace with the help of an audio guide. Our audioguide has several languages including English, German, Dutch, Japanese and Chinese, ensuring everyone in the group has an enriching experience!
  • Guided tour: if you choose this option, you'll be accompanied by a guide who will show you the cave.
