Montevideo Tour
After collecting you from your hotel a the indicated time, we will start our guided walking tour of the Old City in the heart of Montevideo. We will stroll through the historic quarter and admire the blend of European architecture and Latin culture which fills the streets.
We will browse the street stalls that characterize the historic center of Uruguay's capital (only on the weekend). In these open-air markets, you will find typical food from the region, fresh fruit, jewelry, books, paintings, and souvenirs. Our tour wouldn't be complete without also visiting the delightful Port Market where you can taste the flavors of the local gastronomy.
We will visit the Montevideo Metropolitan Cathedral, Plaza Independencia (Independence Square), and 18 de Julio Avenue, before arriving at the majestic Legislative Palace. Inaugurated by the architect Cayetano Moretti in 1925 it is considered to be one of the most beautiful palaces of congress in the world. From here we then head to the Farmer's Market, where you have your own free time to browse the tasty local produce at your own pace. Then we move on to the Estadio Centenario, the home of the Uruguay national football team and recognized by FIFA as the only historic monument to World Football.
Our tour continues at the tranquil Batlle Park and then to some pretty residential neighborhoods, such as Carrasco which is surrounded by beautiful nature. We then finish our tour by heading back to your hotel via La Rambla, a 14-mile avenue which runs along the coastline of the River Plate estuary. On this route back, you will see the flurry of local life, including cyclists, fishermen, and yachts lining the wharves.
