Tour Options
During the booking process, you'll be able to choose between the following tour options. All of them include an English-speaking guide and admission to the Santa Rosa Winery. These are the details for each option:
Tour + Tasting of 5 Wines (2 Hours)
Located in the capital of Uruguay, Santa Rosa Winery is considered one of the country's most historical wine-making centres. To immerse ourselves in its history, aromas, and fine taste, we'll meet at the facility's entrance and make our way to the solera area of the winery. Here, we'll have our first stop on the tour to get to know the wine-making process of Jerez Anticuario, crafted from an exquisite white wine.
Next, we'll head over to the vineyards that grow Tannat red grapes. Did you know that Santa Rosa cultivates a special variety of this type of grape? We'll speak about it as we head to the fermentation and bottling plant.
We'll then go to the cellar, where we'll find barrels that are almost 80 years old. Additionally, in this underground spot, we'll see the original painting of Santa Rosa de Lima, one of the most revered saints of Latin America.
Lastly, we'll visit the winery's museum, San Javier, from 1820. Surrounded by history and iconic wine-making equipment, we'll do the long-awaited wine tasting alongside a wine expert.
We'll delight our palates with five exquisite wines: the Uruguayan Medio y Medio, a Chateau Fond de Cave, a classic Cabernet, a Tannat Fonde de Cave, and a bubbly semi-dry Fond de Cave. We'll pair these drinks with a cheese board, cured meats, and delicious local empanadas. Cheers!
Tour + Tasting of 6 Wines and 1 Spirit (2 Hours)
In this case, we'll do the same tour as described in the previous option and, during the wine tasting at the museum, we'll enjoy 6 exquisite wines and 1 spirit.
We'll taste a Medio y Medio, a Sauvignon Blanc Premium, a Chardonnay Fond de Cave, a Merlot Fond de Cave, a Tannat from the museum, a bubbly semi-dry Fond de Cave, and a traditional Jerez Anticuario-style spirit. These will be paired with a cheese board, cured meats, and traditional empanadas. Not bad!
Tour + Lunch + Tasting of 6 Wines and 1 Spirit (3 Hours)
If you'd like to upgrade your experience in the Santa Rosa Winery even further, this option is the most complete. In this case, once we've finished our tour of the facilities, we'll have the same tasting of the 6 wines and 1 spirit in the museum as the previous option.
The moment of truth will arrive with a succulent 3-course lunch that will be paired with the wine. The menu will change depending on the season, as it's made up of fresh ingredients. Bon appetit!
