Discover two different Renaissance treasures in the same day on our Montepulciano & Pienza Tour. You'll explore the historic centres of these two Tuscan towns and try some of their delicious cheese and wine.
Montepulciano & Pienza Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll see you in Montepulciano's Piazza Grande to start our tour of this beautiful Italian hill town.
From the central square, we'll admire the façade of the Santa Assunta Cathedral, the Palazzo Comunale and the famous Well of the Griffins and Lions. Afterwards, we'll stroll past the Renaissance palaces in the old town until we reach the Madonna di San Biagio Sanctuary. We'll observe the details on its exterior and analyse why it's a perfect example of Tuscan Renaissance architecture.
Nearby, we'll find an underground cellar which we'll head inside to taste a local delicacy: the Montepulciano Vino Nobile wine. This denomination of origin is also one of the oldest wines in Italy!
After the wine tasting, we'll board a minibus and drive through the Orcia Valley to Pienza, which is known as an ideal Renaissance town. This nickname is owed to the elegance of the town's buildings and the layout of its streets, which are based on classical ideas.
We'll walk through this small town's historic centre, which is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. As we walk, we'll see the façade of the Pienza Cathedral, the Piccolomini and Borgia palaces and much more. We'll also visit a spot where we can taste some delicious pecorino cheese.
Our tour will finish upon our arrival back at the starting point after a 3-hour tour.
