Two neighbourhoods, two cathedrals, and the great jewels of the Silician Baroque. In this private tour of Modica with an English-speaking guide, you can visit this beautiful city and its treasures without missing a single detail.
Description
At the indicated time we'll meet at the entrance of San Giorgio Cathedral to begin this private tour of Modica, a city in the province of Ragusa that'll surprise you with its unique beauty.
This Sicilian town is built on two levels: an Upper Modica and a Lower Modica. We'll begin in the upper part, firstly admiring the beautiful facade of San Giorgio Cathedral, one of the jewels of Sicilian Baroque.
We'll enter the church to see its decoration of stuccoes and works of art, and its Sacred Ark, which houses the relics of the patron saint of the temple. As we leave the cathedral, we'll admire the views of the lower part. Doesn't it remind you of another famous Italian city? Let's see if you can guess which one!
We'll start descending towards Lower Modica, walking through narrow streets and stairways, and coming across the remains of the Castle of the Counts, a medieval fortification located on top of a rock. On our tour of Modica, we'll also see the house of Salvatore Quasimodo, a Sicilian writer who won a Nobel Prize for Literature, however, it's since been converted into a museum. Once in Modica Basso, we'll enter the late-baroque-style Cathedral of San Pietro. You'll be impressed by its staircase decorated with statues!
Our tour will end after two hours in Corso Umberto I, the main street of Lower Modica. Here you'll find stores selling typical products, don't miss the chance to visit them!
