A trip to Milan would not be complete without visiting the famous Duomo. We'll head into the cathedral, and go up to the terrace to admire the unique panoramic views of the fashion metropolis.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the cathedral and after admiring its stunning façade, we'll take the lift to reach the breathtaking rooftop terrace. Are you ready to admire a panoramic view of Milan?
From the terrace, which is 8,000 square metres (86,111 square feet), we'll be able to admire 135 spires, pinnacles, flying buttresses and countless statues. Believe it or not, the Duomo features about 3,400 statues! Designed and carved over the centuries, they portray a wide range of biblical and historical figures, gargoyles, animals, little monsters, dragons, faces and puzzling silhouettes. What's more, in recent times, new statues have been installed to represent the city's contemporary history.
After enjoying the rooftop terrace, we'll enter the cathedral. It comes as no surprise that the stunning architecture took centuries to complete! It was commissioned in 1386 by the first Duke of Milan, Gian Galeazzo Visconti, to be built upon the ruins of two previous churches, Santa Maria Maggiore and Santa Tecla.
We'll explore this cathedral full of art, history and faith as we admire the stunning stained glass windows, as well as the unparalleled Gothic architectural structures. Did you know the Duomo is the biggest church in Italy, and the 5th biggest globally?
After between 2 and 2.5 hours, the tour will come to an end at the Milan Cathedral.
