If you're in Mexico City and want to visit two towns with great charm and food, don't miss this trip to Toluca and Metepec.
Description
At the scheduled time we'll meet in front of the Hotel Barceló Reforma, and from there we'll leave behind Mexico City and make our way towards our first destination of the day, Toluca.
Once we've arrived, we'll visit the Cosmovitral Botanical Garden, which extends to more than 3000 square metres (32290 square feet). On the inside, you'll find a window decorated with mosaics considered the world's biggest non-religious stained glass window. This piece emphasises man and the universe. In addition, you'll also have the chance to see more than 400 different species of plants.
This town on the outskirts of the Mexican capital is famous for its food. Among its traditional products is green and red chorizo, which is made from pork meat, ginger, cloves, pepper, chillies and vinegar. You also shouldn't leave before trying the cakes on offer at the Vaquita Negra.
We'll continue our adventure at one of the most magical towns in Mexico, Metepec. This town is known around the country for its clay and the pieces that are made of this material: jars, pots and plates.
Upon arrival, we'll visit the family workshop that created the typical tree of life. In Metepec you'll have some free time to grab something to eat and enjoy the town itself. Here, we recommend that you try a typical drink, the garañona and that you take a photo next to the Tlanchana, the Metepec siren. You'll love the history here!
Next, we'll head towards San Mateo Atenco, a small municipality that has been turned into an important shopping centre thanks to the production of footwear. Every weekend, hundreds of visitors travel to buy new shoes, belts, bags and leather clothes at good prices. You'll also have some free time here to do your own little bit of shopping.
After 12 hours together, the tour will come to an end back at the starting point.
