Day Trip Details
We'll meet at the designated time at the selected pickup point in Mexico City to set off to Tequisquiapan. After a 2.5-hour journey, we'll make a 30-minute stop so that you can grab some breakfast.
After 40 more minutes on the road, we'll reach the El Redentor opal mines to embark on a 3-hour guided tour, where you'll learn all about this valuable mineral. We'll start by hopping on board some offroading vehicles to explore the mines. You'll surely be amazed by these imposing rock formations!
During the tour, we'll venture inside the mines and show you how this hidden treasure is extracted, polished, and finished. After the tour, you'll have the option of buying some opal souvenirs, the perfect way to take a piece of this experience home.
Afterward, we'll enjoy a "mining" snack which includes two Queretaro-style gorditas. Delicious! After lunch, we'll head to Tequisquiapan, found only 7.4 miles (12 kilometers) from the mines.
Once we reach the main square of this Pueblo Mágico (Magic Village), you'll have 4 hours of free time to explore its colorful streets. If you're still hungry, we'll recommend the best places for you to grab a bite to eat. Don't forget to buy snacks for the journey back!
Before we return to Mexico City, we'll take part in a rompope tasting, a traditional Mexican drink that you'll surely love. Finally, we'll return to the capital to conclude this 16-hour day trip at the initial starting point.
