On this day trip to Amealco and Aculco, we'll get to know Lele - a massively culturally significant Mexican Rag Doll.

Amealco & Aculco Day Trip

At the indicated time, we'll leave from 70 Calle Florencia on the corner of Calle Liverpool. From here, we'll head to the municipality of Amealco de Bonfil in the state of Querétaro. This town is considered the capital of the Lele doll, which we'll learn more about while we're there!

Before arriving at our destination, we'll stop to visit the impressive statue of this doll located in Santiago Mexquititlán. Over the course of the tour, you'll learn more about the cultural significance of this rag doll, whose name (Lele) means 'baby' in the local indigenous language. Did you know that this rag doll was declared Cultural Heritage of Querétaro in 2018?

After making our way through this town, we'll make our way to Amealco, where we'll visit the Santa María Parish Church, which is located right in the heart of the town. We'll also pass by the workshop where they make this iconic doll, in the area of San Ildefonso Tultepec, and we'll learn how it changed the lives of the craftswomen who created it.

En route to Aculco, we'll make a stop at another place of interest: the Concepción Waterfall. We'll then finally make our way to Aculco itself, whose name has its origins in the Mexican language of Nahuatl. Get ready to learn all about this fascinating place!

After a long day, we'll leave you some free time to grab some lunch and continue exploring the area at your own pace. We recommend checking out the San Jerónimo Parish Church, the site of site of the old public washhouses, the cobblestone streets and some of its cheese shops!

We'll finish the tour by returning to the starting point in Mexico City, where we'll arrive after a total of 13 hours of sightseeing.
