The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, located in the north of Mexico City, is a Roman Catholic church and the chief religious centre in the country.

History

The Basilica of Guadalupe was built between 1974 and 1976 to replace an 18th century church. The replacement structure has a capacity for 50,000 people and receives around 10 million visitors each year, making it the second-most-visited Catholic shrine in the world.
