Are you in Merzouga? If so, come with us on this private day trip to Rissani to discover one of the most ancient and culturally rich places in Morocco.

Day Trip Details

After picking you up from your hotel in Merzouga at the designated time, we'll begin our journey to Rissani, the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty and one of the holiest cities in Morocco. Let's go! We'll drive for 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) past impressive landscapes until we reach this ancient spot.

Once we arrive, you'll be surprised by the majestic Kasbah and the vibrant traditional city souk. Rissani is especially charming on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays when the market is open. These days are ideal to go shopping and immerse yourself in the local culture, as the souk becomes the meeting point for surrounding villages, both near and far.

Here, we'll step into this traditional souk, where you'll get to discover a great variety of products and traditional handicrafts. From sheep to exotic spices, this market is a window into the everyday life of Rissani's inhabitants. You'll also have a chance to meet locals and learn about their customs.

After exploring the souk, you'll have some free time to grab a bite to eat. Afterwards, we'll make our way to Moulay Ali Cherif's Mausoleum, a place with great cultural and religious significance. Moulay Ali Cherif, an old ruler and ancestor of the current Moroccan king, rests in this space located inside a mosque. Here, we'll explore the details of Moroccan architecture and discuss its history.

6 hours later, this private day trip will come to an end once again in Merzouga after a day of immersing ourselves in authentic Moroccan culture.
