Description
At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel in Mérida and start this excursion to Izamal and Motul. Are you ready to get to know two charming cities of the Yucatán peninsula? Let's go!
First, we'll head to the town of Motul. Have you woken up with an appetite? Upon arrival, we'll stop at the local market to taste the traditional eggs from Motul. Perfect for charging up your batteries!
With our appetite satiated, we'll approach the Sambulá Cenote, a jewel of nature. If you wish, you can take a dip in its crystalline waters. From there, we'll head towards the Museum of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, where we'll see objects and documents that belonged to the so-called martyr of the proletariado nacional, a very relevant figure for the state of Yucatan.
We'll then head southeast to reach the magical town of Izamal. Can you imagine an entire town painted yellow? There we'll take a look at the buildings and houses of the so-called Golden City of Yucatan, a town famous for having been coated in this colour in 1993 to show its joy at the visit of John Paul II.
As we stroll through its streets, we'll learn all about the City of the Three Cultures, whose colonial houses will take us back to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. We'll also visit the monastery of San Antonio de Padua, built with stones from a Mayan pyramid.
Lastly, we'll visit the Kinich Kakmó Pyramid, one of the largest structures in Mesoamerica. We'll review the fascinating history of this archaeological site, dedicated to the Mayan god that bears its name.
Finally, we'll drive back to Mérida and finish the tour at your hotel after 8 hours of sightseeing.
