On this excursion to Izamal, we'll explore this charming Pueblo Mágico and enjoy the light and sound show organised in its historic centre.
Description
At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel in Merida and drive by minibus towards Izamal, where we'll arrive after about 1.5 hours.
Once we've arrived at our destination, we'll approach the Kinich Kakmó Pyramid. From this beautiful structure, which pays homage to the Maya sun god, we'll enjoy a fabulous panoramic view of the historical centre of Izamal, which is characterised by its yellow houses. Along the way, we'll discuss the surprising influence had by Pope John Paul II on this striking colour.
After taking a few photos, we'll head to the convent of San Antonio de Padua, which is just a few steps away from the main square of Izamal. This 16th-century Franciscan convent is considered to be one of the most important historical monuments of Yucatan.
We'll also visit the craft workshop this Pueblo Mágico, recharge with a typical dish at a traditional restaurant, and attend the light and sound show in Izamal. The beautiful, colourful projections on the yellow façade of the Convent of San Antonio de Padua are sure to impress - here, audiovisuals, architecture, and history blend together seamlessly.
After the show, we'll return to Mérida. We'll drop you off at your hotel approximately 10 hours after the initial pickup.
