Discover a picturesque Yucatecan town on this day trip to Izamal from Merida. Plus, we'll also visit Valladolid and the famous archaeological site, Chichen Itza!
Description
We'll meet at the pickup point in Merida of your choosing at the scheduled time, then set off for Valladolid for a panoramic tour of its charming streets. Did you know it's the third most populated city on the Yucatan peninsula?
During the 1 hour tour, we'll see significant monuments, such as the fortified convent of San Bernardino de Siena, built in the 16th century, and the Baroque-style Cathedral of San Gervasio.
After visiting Valladolid, we'll take a short break for a buffet-style lunch at a local restaurant, made up of various traditional Yucatan dishes.
With full bellies, we'll set off for our next destination, visiting Chichen Itza, one of Yucatan's most impressive archaeological sites! Did you know that it's protected as a World Heritage Site? You'll see its different temples, the ball game area, the observatory, and other emblematic constructions.
Our last stop will be in Izamal, which is one of Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos ("Magic Towns"), which boasts the name of "Mexico's yellow city." We'll find out why as we enjoy a 1.5 hour tour through the city's historic center. Here, we'll also find the Convent of San Antonio de Padua, a 16th-century construction that was built by Franciscan monks on top of the town's Maya pyramids.
Finally, we'll leave Izamal behind and return to Merida. We'll arrive back at the meeting point 12 hours later.
