Homún & Eknakán Cenotes Excursion
Homún & Eknakán Cenotes Excursion
At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel in Mérida and drive to the community of Eknakán. On the way there, we'll make a stop so you can have breakfast on your own if you wish.
When we arrive in Eknakán, we'll first visit the Church of San José, a neo-Gothic style building constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, following the model of other European temples. We'll then stroll through town to check out its food stalls and buildings modernized by the richest landowners in the region.
After touring Eknakán we'll move on to Homún, an area of the Yucatán peninsula famous for its spectacular cenotes. We'll explore some in the area to see the different types that exist: closed, semi-open, and open-air cenotes.
We'll learn all kinds of interesting facts about these natural pools, including what their function was and what they symbolized for the Maya civilization. After the historical part of the visit comes the fun: you'll have free time to go for a swim in the cenotes and enjoy their refreshing crystalline waters!
Following the tour of the cenotes, we'll go to a restaurant so you can have lunch on your own. Then, we'll return to Mérida, where we'll arrive about 10 hours after pickup.
