Melfi, Venosa & Lagopesole Private Tour
Melfi, Venosa y Lagopesole Private Tour
At the appointed time we'll meet at the Castle of Melfi, from where you'll follow the guide in your own vehicle to visit the most emblematic corners of the area of Mount Vulture, in the region of Basilicata, starting from Venosa, visiting its archaeological museum.
We'll start the tour in Venosa, visiting its archaeological museum, did you know that it houses the remains of the ancient Roman colony of Venusia, founded in 291 B.C.? We'll walk through the streets of this vanished city and we'll see the baths and a domus decorated with mosaics.
In addition, during the visit we'll have a beautiful backdrop: the abbey of the Holy Trinity. We'll learn about its history and its different stages before moving on to our next destination.
We'll then return to Melfi, where we'll learn about its interesting heritage. We'll take a tour of the Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral, admiring its white stone façade, and the castle of Frederick II, where the National Archaeological Museum of Melfese is located. Here we'll find finds from the Vulture-Melfese area belonging to the Archaic, Classical and Roman periods.
Halfway through the tour we'll take a break so you can have a bite to eat at tour leisure. The last stop of the tour will be in Lagopesole, a village whose past is closely linked to Frederick II and his son Manfredi. We'll learn about some interesting historical events that took place in this village and we'll see its castle.
We will finish the private tour arriving at the starting point in Melfi between eight and nine hours after the beginning of the tour.
