Comuna 13 Free Tour

We'll meet up at the time of your choice at San Javier metro station. From here, we'll take the metro and the bus to Comuna 13 in Medellin, a fascinating hillside neighborhood full of color and life.

During the free tour of Comuna 13, we'll talk about its dark past and how it was once the most dangerous area in the world. Due to its strategic location, Comuna 13 became the epicenter of violence and armed conflict in Medellin. While we contemplate its colorful graffiti, we'll talk about the different military operations that took place in the area, such as the famous Mariscal and Orion.

However, walking through its steep streets you'll feel totally comfortable and safe. This is due to the incredible transformation of Comuna 13 in the last decades. Thanks to the street art and its colorful murals, the locals have managed to turn it into an attractive place for visitors without forgetting its past.

After 2.5 hours, we'll say goodbye and end the free tour of Comuna 13 back in the center of Medellin.

La visita estuvo bien, aunque el guía se dejaba cosas por explicar. Lo que no nos gustó nada es que decían que era free tour, pero desde el primer momento el guía nos dijo que había un mínimo de 35000 pesos. Si es un cree tour deben dejar que el cliente decida y no forzar la situación desde el principio. Y al final del tour, cuando le dimos los 35000 por persona nos dijo que igual podríamos darle 20000 más. Esto me parece horrible. Prefiero que en vez de free tour pongan que tiene un costo. The visit was good, although the guide left things unexplained. What we didn't like at all is that they said it was a free tour, but from the first moment the guide told us that there was a minimum of 35,000 pesos. If it is a cree tour, they should let the client decide and not force the situation from the beginning. And at the end of the tour, when we gave him the 35,000 per person, he told us that we could still give him 20,000 more. This seems horrible to me. Es un tour imprescindible para conocer Medellín y su historia reciente. Nuestra guía nos explicó un sinfín de historias y anécdotas. Se nota que además vive en este mismo barrio y se lo conoce a la perfección. Sólo un pero: durante la visita, nos pararon para participar en dos espectáculos callejeros típicos de esta ciudad, pero que no tenían nada que ver con el tour y donde también te pedían una propina... este tipo de prácticas no las veo nada bien y no deberían formar parte de un free tour. This is an essential tour to get to know Medellín and its recent history. Our guide told us a ton of stories and anecdotes. It's obvious that she also lives in this same neighborhood and knows it perfectly. Just one but: during the visit, they stopped us to participate in two street shows typical of this city, but they had nothing to do with the tour and where they also asked for a tip... Es una excelente actividad, recomiendo considerar un día completo para recorrer el barrio con calma. La guía Marcela fue buena pero no inspirsba entusiasmo en el tour, en su explicacion fue vaga como si sólo nos fijera por donde caminar en el barrio.. En la descripcion hacen una rrcomendacion de propina pero la guia nos pidio obligatorio el minimo de la propina, si alguien daba menos del minimo pedía el faltante. A nosotros nos pidio los 40.000. It's an excellent activity; I recommend allowing a full day to explore the neighborhood at a leisurely pace. Our guide, Marcela, was good, but didn't inspire enthusiasm for the tour. Her explanations were vague, as if she was simply showing us where to walk in the neighborhood. The description includes a recommendation for tipping, but the guide required the minimum tip.
