2,600 years of history and two delicious tasting sessions await on our Le Panier Guided Tour. You'll learn all about the modernisation of this Phocian city, which is also the oldest district in France!
Le Panier Guided Tour
Our exciting historical tour will start at 10 am by the Vieux Port metro exit (Quai des Belges). The guide will start by explaining how the city rehabilitated many monuments in 2013, such as the Docks, the Silo, Villa Méditerranée and the new icon of Marseille: the MUCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations).
We'll then walk along the seafront before heading into the Le Panier district, which is the oldest in Marseille... and France! You'll walk by the La Major Cathedral, built in the 19th century, after which your guide will take you through Le Panier's narrow and picturesque streets. These iconic streets are filled with street art, and strolling through them is like visiting an open-air museum.
In this district, which has a unique feel to it, you'll see the symbolic Vieille Charité and Place des Moulins. Here, the guide will tell you about the creation of Marseille 2,600 years ago and mention some key points in the city's history.
The next stop on the tour will be the Place de Lenche, where you'll taste some delicious chocolate navettes (a type of French biscuit).
Our tour will finish at 12 pm in front of the Saint-Laurent church, one of the oldest in the city, overlooking a breathtaking view of the Vieux-Port and the Mucem. Before saying your goodbyes, the guide will be happy to answer any questions you have and offer some tips so you can make the most of your stay in Marseille.
