The Atlas Mountains, the Dades Valley, the Merzouga dunes... Discover the beautiful treasures of the Moroccan hinterland with this Marrakech to Fez 5 Day Trip.

Description

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley

We'll leave Marrakech at 8 am in the direction of Ouarzazate. During the journey, we'll cross the captivating landscapes of the Atlas, one of the main mountain ranges of Morocco. On this route, we'll also pass through Tizi n'Tichka: the highest stretch of road in North Africa. 2,260 metres!

Another stop will be the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, whose natural surroundings have been the setting for films such as Gladiator. We'll continue to discover Morocco's links with the seventh art in Ouarzazate, where we'll visit its famous film studios. Our day will end by staying in the Dades Valley until the next day.

Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Mharech Gorges

We'll start the day crossing different Berber towns and villages in the direction of the Todra Gorges. Do you know how their spectacular rocky landscapes originated? The tour will continue to another well-known gorge, the Mharech Gorges. To reach this point we will go through some points of the old route of the Dakar Rally.

In the late afternoon, we'll arrive at a riad in Mharech. In this typical desert accommodation, we can admire the stars in the sky as we have never seen them before.

Day 3: Mharech - Ramlia Oasis - Ouzina Dunes - Merzouga

After breakfast in Mharech, we'll start a route along wadis (dry riverbeds) and dunes that will take us to the Ramlila Oasis. Then, the next stop on the journey will be the Ouzina dunes. At this point, it will no longer be possible to travel in our all-terrain jeep. So, we'll enjoy a camel ride through the Moroccan desert!

The camels will leave us in the Merzouga desert, a majestic natural area where we'll spend the night in a real haima.

Day 4: Merzouga desert

On this day we'll be in the middle of the Merzouga desert, away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Once we have breakfast we won't have to worry about anything. Just enjoy the view of the landscapes during a tour of the area in a 4x4 jeep. The nomadic Berber peoples we'll meet by the Erg Chebbi dunes, the highest in Morocco, will teach us a valuable lesson: we're so preoccupied with looking at the screen of our mobile phone or tablet that we often lose sight of what is really important: observing life through our eyes and, above all, our soul.

We'll continue to enjoy the local culture and traditions in Khamlia, a small village where we'll attend a folk music show. At the end of the show, we'll return to our desert haima.

Day 5: Rissani - Ziz Valley - Middle Atlas - Fez

We'll say goodbye to the Merzouga desert with breakfast at the foot of its dunes. Our itinerary will continue to Rissani, the ancient capital of the Alaouite sultans. From here, we'll continue the route through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas to Ifrane, whose natural landscapes have earned it the nickname of the "Moroccan Switzerland".

In the late afternoon, we'll arrive in the city of Fez, the final destination of our itinerary.

End in Marrakech

If you want the tour to end in Marrakech, you can also choose this circuit (with a very similar itinerary) of the same duration and price for the interior of Morocco, 5 Day Dakar Track and Merzouga Desert Trip.
