On this intertropical tour of the Mangroves of Tumbes National Sanctuary, we'll explore one of the most unique ecosystems in the world while visiting a few of the area's most popular islets.
Description
After picking you up at your hotel in Mancora at 8 am, we'll head for Tumbes, a coastal town located in the extreme northwest of Peru.
We'll travel by road to Puerto Pizarro, an area known for its impressive mangrove forests. This ecosystem, which is characteristic of intertropical South America, extends from the Gulf of Guayaquil to Playa Hermosa, forming a series of passable water channels on the Tumbes River delta.
We'll visit a few of the most beautiful mangrove islets in the area, starting with the Isla de los Pajaros (Bird Island). Any idea why it has this name? We'll also admire the great red mangrove, which houses a number of indigenous birds.
We'll also pass La Isla Hueso de Ballena (Whale Bone Island) and make a stop at La Isla del Amor (Love Island), with its magnificent beaches where you'll have some free time to relax and give the local gastronomy a try.
Before heading back to Mancora, we'll check out the centre of Tumbes to visit its main square, and then make a stop at La Playa de Amotape (Amotape Beach), with its breathtaking turquoise waters.
Finally, we'll arrive in Mancora, dropping you off at your hotel at about 3 pm.
