Spinalonga & Kolokitha Excursion
We'll meet at 8 am in Malia and head to Elounda harbor. There, we'll climb aboard a boat and set sail to the beach of Kolokitha, where we'll drop anchor so you can take a refreshing dip and, if you wish, enjoy a delicious barbecue on board.
Next, we'll cross the bay of Mirabello and make our way to the island of Spinalonga, an abandoned gem where we'll discover what happened during Venetian and Ottoman rule as well as its many battles.
During the tour, we'll see the great fortress and imposing walls that defended this islet belonging to the Aegean archipelago. Fun fact: aside from having been a fortress to defend the island from enemy attacks, it was also used as a leper colony at the beginning of the 20th century.
After learning about Cretan history, we'll sail back to Malia, arriving at around 7 pm.
