Agiofarago, Matala & Odigitria Jeep Safari
At 8 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in Malia. We’ll hop on a jeep and venture into inner Crete to visit some of the most magical places on the island.
We’ll traverse beautiful vineyard landscapes as you learn about the many varieties of grapes and wines that are produced in Crete. Our first stop of the day will be in Agios Thomas, a small village located at 760 meters (2493 ft) above sea level. We’ll not only enjoy beautiful views but also visit churches, remains of Byzantine aqueducts, and tombs from Roman times.
Then we will continue touring the island towards the valley of Messara. We will cross olive groves and arrive at Odigitria Monastery, one of the most famous monasteries in Crete, dating back to the 14th century. After admiring the imposing exterior, we will enter its museum to discover objects of the traditional life of the Cretans.
Our next stop? Agiofarago Gorge. We'll stop at the entrance and start walking around the gorge admiring the beautiful landscapes of the area. After a 20-minute walk, we'll reach Agirofarago beach, where you'll be able to swim in its crystal clear waters. Later, you'll have lunch at a local restaurant, where you will enjoy a delicious menu comprised of a main course, a salad and dessert.
The last destination on this tour will be the unique village of Matala. Did you know that hippies lived here in the '70s? You will have free time to explore Matala and discover its many charms at your own leisure.
Lastly, we'll meet up again and make our way back to Malia. We’ll drop you off at your hotel around 4 am.
