Buddhist Stupa & White Villages Axarquia Day Trip
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Paseo de la Farola in Malaga and get on the minibus that'll take us to the Karma Guen Buddhist Centre. Let's go!
After a 40-minute drive, we'll arrive at the Velez-Malaga Buddhist Stupa. This monument was erected in 1994, making it the first of its kind to be built outside Asia. We'll tell you about its intricate details and what they symbolise.
We'll walk through the Buddhist centre's rural paths while enjoying incredible views of the sea and the Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges. Afterwards, we'll walk to the nearby Atalaya Tower, a 15th-century fortress boasting Arab-style architecture.
Then, we'll return to the minibus and spend the rest of the day visiting some of the region's white villages. Our first stop will be Comares, where we'll begin with a guided tour. As we walk through its narrow streets we'll discover why this village is also known as a 'castle on the heights'. After the tour, you'll have 1 hour of free time to have lunch.
Our next stop will be Cútar. We'll head to the historic fountain and Our Lady of the Incarnation Church before hopping back on the minibus so we can go to El Borge. Did you know that El Borge was once a land of bandits? We'll walk through its streets and visit the El Rosario Church's rather peculiar crypt, which may surprise you...
Finally, we'll finish the tour arriving back at the starting point in Malaga after approximately 8 hours of exploring.
