Mahón Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Plaça de s'Esplanada. From this central point in Mahón, we'll start a free tour to discover the remains left in the capital of Menorca by the British Crown.
We'll admire the barracks of the Count of Cifuentes and Cala Corb, built at the end of the 18th century under British rule. We'll continue our walk to the statue of Mateo Orfila, a prominent Menorcan doctor and toxicologist.
After learning about his contribution to modern medicine, we'll visit Mahón's Teatro Principal, the oldest opera house in Spain. Nearby, we'll find the stately homes of the old town, whose imposing façades and architectural details will help you get an idea of the opulence of the British era on the island.
Afterwards, we'll walk to the Plaza de Colón, where we'll see the statue of Pilar Alonso. The tour will also take us to the Town Hall, where we'll find the church of Santa María and El Principal de Guardia, a building erected in 1786 to house the British security forces.
In the final stretch of our tour, we'll visit the curious market of the Claustro del Carmen, set in a neoclassical courtyard. Its location also offers incredible views of the second-largest natural harbour in the world—don't forget your camera!
After 2 hours of sightseeing, we'll conclude this free tour of Mahón next to the church of El Carmen.
