At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to start this guided tour of Mahébourg - you'll be amazed by its great cultural and historical heritage!
First, we'll visit the National Museum of History of Mahébourg, where we'll learn about the maritime past of the region, as well as the battles from the French and the British throughout the 19th century. Also, the building that houses the museum is a real masterpiece, being an old French-style colonial building dating back to 1772.
After our visit to the museum, we'll move on to the Waterfront, Mahébourg's promenade. Here, we'll walk along the city's waterfront as we admire the natural surroundings and discover the history of the Battle of the Grand Harbour and how's life is like for the locals.
Nearby, we'll find the central market of Mahébourg, full of stalls of all kinds. Fruits, handicrafts, musical instruments, or textiles made on the island will be some of the products you can find.
Our next destination will be the Rault biscuit factory, where the famous Mauritian cassava cookies have been made since 1870. Did you know that the recipe has been kept secret for four generations? For about an hour, we'll tour the facilities and learn interesting facts about this delicious pastry.
From here, we'll move on to Pointe Canon, a monument celebrating the abolition of slavery on the island. To round off this tour of Mahébourg, we'll go to a local restaurant to enjoy a traditional full-course meal.
Lastly, we'll drop you back at your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
Mahebourg Central Market
The central market of Mahebourg will only be visited on Mondays. For the rest of the days, we'll visit the Blue Bay beach. This turquoise water bay has become one of the most popular diving destinations in Mauritius due to its rich biodiversity.
