Why Visit the Prado Museum?
Located in the so-called Paisaje de la Luz, a beautiful area in the centre of Madrid declared a World Heritage Site, the Prado Museum is one of the most important art galleries in the world.
With a collection of 7600 paintings and 1000 sculptures, the Prado Museum houses an extensive exhibition of European and Spanish art. It has pieces by painters such as Velázquez, El Greco, Rubens, El Bosco and Goya.
In the Prado, you'll find masterpieces such as Las Meninas by Velázquez, The Garden of Earthly Delights by El Bosco, The Three Graces by Rubens or La maja desnuda by Goya.
This ticket includes access to the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions on the day of your visit. Please note that, on certain occasions, your ticket may not include access to certain temporary exhibitions.
In the latter case, you'll need to purchase the corresponding time pass on the day of your visit. Availability is subject to demand.
Skip the Line
Your ticket includes administration fees: € 3 (US$ 3.14) per person. Also, by booking this ticket, you'll skip the queue at the museum's ticket office. However, you will still have to go through the security check and queue to enter the building.
Ticket Validity
Even though you have to choose a date when you book this activity, the ticket is open-ended and can be used up to 6 months from purchase.
Museum Opening Times
- The Prado Museum is open from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 7 pm.
- On January 6, and December 24 and 31, opening times are 10 am to 2 pm.
- In all cases, final admission to the museum is 30 minutes before closing time. Clearance from the rooms starts 10 minutes before closing time.
- The museum is closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25.
Discounted Entry
Large families, seniors over 65 and young people with a valid Youth Card can get access to the museum at a reduced rate by buying tickets at the Prado Museum ticket office.
Free Entry
Entry to the Prado Museum is free for the following groups
The general public can enter free of charge from Monday to Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 5 pm to 7 pm. It is also free on November 19 and May 18.
If you have already purchased a general admission ticket with Civitatis and wish to reserve another free or reduced-rate ticket, you can go with your reservation to the museum's preferential ticket offices. This way, you will avoid the long queues that usually form at the ticket offices for the general public.
