Don Quixote Tour of Toledo, Consuegra & Alcalá de Henares
Description
On the day of the activity, we'll meet at Calle Julio Camba, next to Las Ventas metro station. From this point in Madrid, we'll set off in the direction of La Mancha to follow in the footsteps of the nobleman Don Quixote. This character, the fruit of Miguel de Cervantes' imagination, is one of the main emblems of Spanish literature.
The first stop is Toledo, the city of three cultures. In this town on the banks of the Tagus River, we'll take a guided tour to discover those points linked to the figure of Don Quixote. This tour will also allow us to admire the exterior of the city's main monuments, among which the Alcázar and Toledo Cathedral stand out.
After the guided tour of Toledo, you'll have about an hour of free time to stroll around and enjoy the local gastronomy. The route through La Mancha will continue in Consuegra. In this picturesque town, we'll see its famous windmills, which Don Quixote mistook for giants that he had to fight against.
From Consuegra, we'll start our return to Madrid. Before returning to the capital, we'll make a stop in Alcalá de Henares, the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes. In this city, which, like Toledo, is one of Spain's 15 World Heritage Cities, we'll pass by the writer's house and visit the square that bears his name.
During the tour of Cervantes' city, we'll also see the façade of the historic building of the University of Alcalá de Henares.
Finally, we'll return to the meeting point in Madrid, where we'll conclude this 11-hour tour.
