Join us for an immersive walking tour of the Spanish capital as we step back into 18th-century Madrid! Explore sites like the Prado Museum and Cibeles Fountain.
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet up in Madrid's bustling Puerta del Sol. From there, we'll set off on our tour to discover Madrid and its 18th and 19th-century architecture.
During our tour, we'll learn all about the city's fascinating history, from the enlightenment of the 18th century to the war against Napoleon in the 19th century. We'll see how the city developed from its early beginnings into the vibrant city as we know it today.
To begin, we'll stroll to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. After admiring this building's elegant façade, we'll head to the Congress of Deputies to see where the Spanish Parliament convenes.
Our next stop will be the iconic Prado Museum, which houses works of art by world-famous artists such as El Greco, Francisco Goya, and Pablo Picasso.
A pleasant stroll along the Paseo del Prado will lead us past the Fountain of Neptune which, along with other fountains such as the Apollo and Cibeles Fountains, has become one of the top attractions in the area.
Once we've seen these three fountains, we'll continue walking until we come to the imposing Puerta de Alcalá, one of the 5 ancient royal gates that gave access to the city. Here, we'll find one of the many entrances to Retiro Park, declared UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Paseo del Prado in 2021.
Having entered the park, we'll walk through this tranquil green space until we come to the grand Monument to Alfonso XII. Our tour of modern Madrid will then come to an end by the Grand Estanque in Retiro Park after 2 hours 15 minutes of history, culture and beautiful architecture.
Changes to the route
In the event of adverse weather conditions, Retiro Park may be closed by the authorities. In this case, the stops inside the park won't take place.
