Pico Island Wine Tour
We'll start this wine tour around Pico Island at the scheduled time from the Cais da Madalena Pico.
Our first stop will be at Moinho do Frade, famous for the surrounding wine-growing landscapes. These agricultural areas have even been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a natural jewel of the Azores archipelago!
The tour will continue to the Cooperativa do Vinho, where we'll enjoy a tasting with a wide range of white, red and liqueur wines, including Frei Gigante, the best known white wine in the Azores.
Afterwards, we'll have lunch in a quaint restaurant with fresh products such as tuna or local meats, always accompanied by Pico wine - a real treat!
We'll walk through black villages built with volcanic stones to reach Madalena. On the outskirts of this town, the local capital, is the Wine Museum. We'll visit its vineyards, wine presses and other areas of its facilities to learn how the vines on which the grapes are grown, the raw material of its excellent wines, are treated. Also, did you know that the largest dragon trees on the island of Pico are found there?
We'll go to a winery for a second tasting of local wines, including the traditional Verdelho do Pico.
The tour will end 8 hours after departure back at the starting point.
