Pico Island Full-Day Tour
Pico Island Tour
We'll meet at 9:30 am at the Cais da Madalena Pico, from where we'll start our tour of Pico Island, passing through the picturesque island capital, Madalena.
On the outskirts of the city, we'll discover the oenological importance of the island as we pass through the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscapes of Pico.
The tour will continue along the coast, arriving at the Pocinho pond, home to various migratory birds. All this vineyard environment is watched over by the volcano that gives its name to the island. The massif, which surrounds the Montaña do Pico Nature Reserve, is the highest peak in the Azores and Portugal - 2351 metres above sea level!
After admiring the environmental richness of the area, we'll take a break to taste the traditional Pico cheese at the oldest cheese factory on the island. We'll then go to a local restaurant known for its excellent fresh fish, squid and shrimps.
In the afternoon, we'll visit the Whalers' Museum. Inside you'll see several model ships and various objects that will show you the importance of this industry on the island of Pico.
We'll return to the north coast, from where we'll admire the island of São Jorge and, if you wish, you can even take a dip. We'll then reach the Lajido village to taste the Verdelho wine and finish the tour in Madalena at about 5:30 pm.
