Lucca City Walls Guided Tour
At the time indicated, we'll meet at Piazzale Giuseppe Verdi and head to the walls of Lucca. Are you ready to discover one of the landmarks of this UNESCO World Heritage city?
During the tour, we'll travel between the 13th and 17th centuries to discover how military engineering has evolved in Italy. In fact, due to the absence of war, the walls of Lucca were never actually used for defensive purposes. For this reason, they have survived virtually intact to the present day.
The wall system is now part of a public park full of green areas surrounding the city. We'll walk around admiring these fortifications both from the outside and from the inside. A visit to the inner galleries of the walls of Lucca will reveal the places where the cannons and ammunition were kept.
Also, we'll find bastions such as San Donato or Santa Maria. We'll discover the role these defensive points played within the wall structure and learn about the restoration work conducted over the last few years.
Lastly, we'll end the guided tour after 2 hours at the bastion of San Martino.
