Villages of Alto Biobío Tour
The Pewenche territory, an original Mapuche people from the Andes, still maintains its customs and traditions in the upper area of the Biobío river. Would you like to discover it? After picking you up, we'll walk along this river, which marked the natural border between the indigenous peoples and the Spaniards during the colonisation of Chile.
The first stop on the banks of the Biobío River will be in the village of Santa Bárbara. There we'll visit its main points of interest, including the main square, the Costanera promenade and the Quilaco bridge. This is also the name of the next town on the route, which will serve as the starting point for our tour of the Chilean countryside at the foot of the Andes.
We'll continue our tour through the villages of the Upper Biobío in Ranco, where you can visit the Pewenche Museum to learn more about the history of this indigenous people. The route along the Biobío River will continue at the Peumayenko Ecopark, where you can walk on your own along one of its themed trails dedicated to the local culture.
After the hike, we'll enjoy a delicious Pewenche lunch at the ecopark. The menu includes a starter with kneaded bread, tortilla or a fried wheat flour dough called 'sopaipilla'. The meal also consists of a main course accompanied by a typical spicy sauce called 'pebre', salad and herbal water.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point 10 hours after the pickup.
Schedules & Options
When you make your reservation, you can choose one of the following options:
Tour with transfers from Los Angeles
If you choose this option, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Los Angeles between 8:15 and 9 am. We'll conclude the tour by returning you to your accommodation.
Tour with pickup at a pickup point in Salto del Laja
If you choose this option, we'll pick you up between 6:15 and 6:30 am at Salto del Laja. You can choose one of the following meeting points:
- Hotel Salto del Laja: we'll pick you up at the car park of its restaurant.
- Hotel Los Manantiales
At the end of the excursion, we'll take you back to the meeting point of your choice.
