    Very easy to find the hop on area near the Tower of London. All was to time. Settled me to my seat and brought coffee. Then my single serve of afternoon tea was brought to my table and this was delicious. I asked for tea and was given a pot and a new cup. The Christmas decorations and music helped too.

History

After the Palace of Westminster was destroyed by a fire in 1834, the parliament decided to construct a new clock tower as part of restoration works. The resulting 96-metre (315-foot) tower is what we affectionately know today as Big Ben!

Did you know...

Big Ben is just a nickname for the tower. While the bell itself is officially called 'Big Ben', the tower was named Elizabeth Tower (in place of ) in 2012, in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.

How to get there

Getting to Big Ben is easy, and it is right beside several other key London landmarks. The nearest underground (tube) stop is Westminster station, which you can travel to on the Circle (yellow), District (green) and Jubilee (grey) lines.
