Amazing Women London Tour
Description
Have you ever walked the streets of London and noticed that there are very few statues of women? On this free tour through London, we'll visit some of these statues and also learn about the hugely important contributions of women throughout London's history.
As well as the women whose actions were commemorated with the erection of statues, we'll discuss the women who are underrepresented and misrepresented in history. We'll talk about such figures as Philippa of Hainault, who spared the lives of the Burghers of Calais, Florence Nightingale, pivotal spies and nurses from WW2, and many others!
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Lambeth Palace Garden Museum before making our way toward St. Thomas Hospital, where we'll see the Mary Seacole Memorial Statue, which stands on the grounds. While we're here, we'll learn about the role of the British-Jamaican businesswoman and nurse during the Crimean War and the 'British Hotel' which she established.
From there, we'll head across Westminster Bridge to get some amazing views of the London Eye and of Big Ben before making our way to Parliament Square, where we'll avail of the photo opportunities around the houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and the Supreme Court.
The tour will then take us to Victoria Tower Gardens, where the Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst Memorial is located. This statue is a memorial to Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Christabel - two of the foremost British suffragettes. We'll then make our way down towards Whitehall/Parliament Street, where we'll enjoy lovely views of Downing Street, The Royal Horseguards, and Banqueting House!
We'll head to Trafalgar Square before our final stop of the tour directly opposite the beautiful St. James's Park, where we'll conclude our tour after 2 hours and 30 minutes.
