Location
The Fernando Alonso Museum and Circuit is in Llanera, a town located just 15 minutes by car from Oviedo and barely half an hour away from Gijón. Its privileged location, between the 2 main cities of the principality, is what makes this museum one of the biggest tourist attractions in Asturias.
A Bit of History
Fernando Alonso Diaz was born in Oviedo on the 29th of July 1981. From a young age, he showed great talent for car driving. In 1988 and 1989 he won the Asturian Children's Karting Championship.
Little by little, the young driver became more experienced and in 1996, was crowned the World Karting Champion. The move to the fastest single-seaters in the world was not long coming and in the year 2001, Fernando Alonso made his debut in Formula 1.
Without a doubt, this decade is the most successful one of his career, because of his Formula 1 World Championship wins in the years 2005 and 2006. all of these successes are a great source of pride for his country. And it's not for nothing! In 2005, the driver was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports.
Just a year later, in 2008, Fernando Alonso laid the first foundation for the museum dedicated to his career. Finally, on June 26, 2015, the Fernando Alonso Museum and Circuit opened to the public and is now a must-visit location for lovers of F1.
What's there to See at the Museum?
With this ticket to the Fernando Alonso Museum, you'll be able to visit at your own pace the different rooms that make up the 1,200 square metre (12,916 sqft) museum.
The permanent exhibition contains more than 400 unique pieces belonging to the personal collection of Fernando Alonso. This display allows you to discover the origins and evolution of his successful high-level sporting career.
Among the main attractions are the following:
- The first kart competed he competed in as a child.
- Different F1 cars that Fernando Alonso has competed in, for teams such as Minardi, Renault, Ferrari, McLaren and Aston Martin.
- World Endurance cars that have been driven by the Asturian driver.
- The trophies won in the Formula 1 World Championship in 2005 and 2006.
During your tour of the museum, whose visit takes around an hour, you'll see famous objects belonging to the Asturian driver, such as helmets, competition overalls and many other trophies and cars that have played a big role in his sporting career.
If you'd like, at the front desk of the museum, you can get yourself an audio guide in English narrated by Fernando Alonso himself, which will allow you to understand every detail of the history of the single-seaters, trophies and the most important objects in the exhibition.
Opening Times
The Fernando Alonso Museum and Circuit opens from Monday to Sunday between 10 am and 7 pm. Please keep in mind that the last admission is at 6 pm and the exhibition rooms must be empty by 6:45 pm.
Ticket Validity
The admission ticket for the museum can only be used once and is only valid for the day you booked it. Once you leave the exhibition you may not re-enter with the same ticket.
Karting Circuit
The museum is also home to an International Automobile Association-approved karting circuit, which hosts karting competitions for those of all levels. Your ticket includes access to the stands of the circuit, but not access to drive the karts themselves.
Children under 4
Please keep in mind that children under 4 years of age can access the museum for free and a ticket is not needed for them.
