If you're a history buff, then you can't miss this tour of the royal palaces of Sintra and Lisbon. We'll depart from the Portuguese capital to visit the palatial sites of Pena, Queluz and Ajuda.
Options
When making your booking for the tour of the royal palaces of Sintra and Lisbon, you'll be able to choose between a half-day tour or a full-day tour. In both cases, transport is included from the Portuguese capital, as well as an English–speaking guide and entry tickets to the visited palaces.
Half-Day Tour (5 hours)
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Praça Marques do Pombal and from there, we'll make our way westwards.
After an hour-long journey to Sintra, we'll take a guided tour of Pena Palace. During the tour, which will take around an hour, we'll admire the different rooms in this architectural jewel which has been declared a World Heritage Site.
The Palacio da Pena, one of the main expressions of the Portuguese Romantic style, was one of the favourite holiday locations of the Portuguese royal family. Why did they choose such bright colours for the outside of the building? What mysteries and legends lie within its walls? We'll find out!
Then, we'll make our way to the Palace of Queluz, located between Sintra and Lisbon, to visit another of the great residents of the Portuguese monarchs. It is often called the Portuguese Versailles, due to its gardens and rooms being reminiscent of the French residence. We'll take an hour-long guided tour to explore it and discover its passionate history, which experienced its fiery history between the 18th and 19th centuries.
After visiting the Palace of Quelez, we'll begin our return trip to Lisbon, where we'll bring this tour to an end after 5 hours, in front of the Jerónimos Monastery, in the neighbourhood of Belém.
Full-Day Tour (8 hours)
If you choose this option, we'll first follow the same itinerary as the above option. Once we arrive at the Jerónimos Monastery, you'll have 2 hours of free time for lunch in the Belém neighbourhood.
After eating, we'll meet up again and make our way to one of the most beautiful monuments in Lisbon, where we'll take a guided tour of the Palace of Ajuda. Did you know that this was the last residence of the Portuguese Royal Family?
During the tour, which will last around an hour, we'll discover the different rooms and quarters. Once we've finished the tour of the Palace of Ajuda, we'll return to Praça Marques do Pombal, where we'll bring this tour to an end after 8 hours in total.
