Ancient walls, breathtaking castles, and the Portuguese surfing paradise await us on this excursion to Obidos and Nazare from Lisbon - definitely a must-see location!
Description
Having met at the scheduled time at the Praça Marquês de Pombal, we'll head north from this central point of Lisbon towards the town of Obidos. Did you know that it is considered the most beautiful medieval town in all of Portugal?
We'll start our guided tour of Obidos by the Porta da Vila tower. Then, after going under its arch, we'll enter the old town. Its scenic cobblestone streets will transport us back to medieval times, to a time when this town was of great strategic importance.
As we walk through the old town, we'll see the outline of the walls and admire the imposing facade of the castle of Obidos. This fortress, dating from the 12th century, is one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. We'll also stop in front of the aqueduct, one of the city's great engineering works.
Our tour of Obidos will then continue on the Rua Dereita. You'll have a free hour for lunch on this street, the main street of stores and restaurants. We strongly recommend you try a traditional stew called ensopado de enguias.
After lunch, we'll head north to visit the coastal town of Nazare, one of the main surfing destinations in Portugal. You'll have about an hour of free time to explore the seaside streets and enjoy the views from the Mirador de Subero.
Lastly, we'll return from Nazare to the meeting point in Lisbon, where we'll arrive after a total of 8 hours of sightseeing.
