Jerónimos Monastery Tickets
Why Visit the Jerónimos Monastery?
Located in the neighborhood of Belém, very close to Lisbon's most famous tower, the Jerónimos Monastery is one of the main monuments in the Portuguese capital.
With this ticket to the Jerónimos Monastery, you'll be able to visit this monastery declared a World Heritage Site at your own pace. This unique monastery was built at the beginning of the 16th century in a Gothic-Manueline style, an architectural movement that emerged in Portugal during the reign of Manuel I.
One of the main attractions of the monastery is the Igreja de Santa Maria de Belém. This church, which only has one nave, is known for its spectacular ribbed vault. Under this vault lies the remains of Manuel I and his wife, Mary of Aragon. The temple also houses the tombs of Vasco da Gama, Luís de Camões, and Fernando Pessoa.
Along with the church, you can't miss visiting the cloister of the Jerónimos Monastery. This interior Manueline-style courtyard, located next to the north entrance to the church, was also built at the beginning of the 16th century. If you look closely at its architecture, you'll notice the letter M carved in various spots.
The monastery is found next to the Praça do Império, a beautiful park near the Belém Tower and the Monument of the Discoveries, both erected on the shores of the Tagus River.
