Lisbon Cod + Wine Free Tour
Description
Do you fancy learning about the gastronomy of Lisbon beyond Pasteles de Belem? Welcome to this free cod and wine food tour! We'll meet at the Praça dos Restauradores at the scheduled time and begin our tour, following these two culinary delights in Portugal.
First off, we'll make our way to A Ginjinha, a bar that specializes in Lisbon's oldest drink. What is ginjinha? It's a sour cherry liqueur, the most popular drink in Portugal, and especially in Lisbon. To learn all about this, we'll visit a shop that was founded in 1840. Also, if you like, you can taste a shot of ginjinha.
We'll continue the free tour towards Rua do Bacalhoeiros, the perfect place to learn about the connection between the Portuguese capital and cod. Part of its history will be revealed to us, in particular, that which has to do with the earthquake that occurred in Lisbon in 1755.
We'll continue towards Rua Arsenal and pass by the Merceria Rei do Bacalhau and the Perola do Arsenal, 2 emblems of the city and cod. Next stop? Manteigaria Silva, the oldest cod shop in Lisbon. We'll see how part of its original architecture has been maintained, as well as how extensive works that have occurred over the years have allowed it to stay standing.
The tour will take us to Praça do Comércio, where we'll enter the Cod Museum and Interpretation Center. After paying our ticket, we'll take a 30-minute guided tour of its rooms, learning all about this exquisite fish. You'll learn all about this authentic Portuguese treasure!
To finish, we'll walk along the banks of the Tajo River towards the Mercado da Ribeira, a place where we'll discover all the secrets of the wines produced in this area of Lisbon. There, we'll take part in 2 tastings that will be the real cherry on top of this free tour.
After 2 hours on the move and with a delicious taste in our mouths, the tour will come to an end outside the Vinos de Lisboa wine bar.
